On just about any average day in the U.S., millions of people across the country are watching birds. They are observing via bird watching clubs that they are members of. They join bird watching tours in their own city as well as in far away countries. And, those really into it, plan holidays and family trips around the migration path of their favorite bird species. Bird watching, once you begin, is addictive.

So what’s the draw? Why are people doing this? For one thing, it’s inexpensive. All you really need to begin your bird watching hobby is a pair of good binoculars. Then maybe in a month or two, you’ll invest in a quality camera to capture for all time the birds you’ve seen.

Secondly, bird watching is a fantastic self-justification to spend time outdoors. Far too many of us spend our time either closeted inside our homes or trapped a job cubicle. In our air conditioned environments, we have forgotten what it’s like to breath fresh air and commune with nature. We’ve forgotten that we’re not the only creatures blessed to live on this planet. We’ve forgotten that it’s natural to be outdoors.

Third – convenience. What’s more convenient than watching birds in the comfort of your own back yard? You can go down to your local garden center or pet store, buy a bird house kit and some feed, and have a bird sanctuary in your back yard in one afternoon. And, if you’ve done your homework correctly, your newly discovered bird friends will love you.

Fourth – watching birds in their bird house provides you with your own private animal reality show. Within days, you’ll find yourself involved in the various bird families pecking order. Who is dominant? Who’s selfish? Who’s nurturing? Who’s a bully? You’ll begin to recognize distinct personalities. And those among us with slight psychological problems will start to name them.

Fifth – bird watching is a relaxing activity. No matter how stressed out your day has been, once you sit down with your binoculars and aim it towards your bird friends, you’ll notice a sense of calm and tranquility coming over you. It’s inevitable and can’t be stopped. It’s impossible not to feel your blood pressure dropping and the stresses and worries fleeing from your mind.

Sixth – you’ll be helping nature by helping the species to survive. In many parts of the country, the natural habitats of the native creatures, including birds, have been destroyed. In modern society, new industrial or housing development trumps nature every time. With your bird watching hobby, you can help restore some of the habitat balance by providing nesting places, shelter from predators, and food for the birds that you enjoy.

Seventh – bird watching is such a great social and bonding activity for people. Finding people who love the same thing as you do and spending time with them lets you re-connect with your humanity. Rather than spending hours in front of the T.V. screen, you can form friendship bonds that will stay with you the rest of your life.

Eight – bird watching is great exercise. Barely a week passes by without us hearing on the news about the obesity epidemic and how we Americans are getting fatter and fatter by the day. We all know that we should exercise more, but very few of us actually do it. Bird watching is a good way to simultaneously exercise and have fun. Observing and trailing birds through the forest will give you plenty of exercise and help to keep you in good health.

For these reasons, and more, bird watching as an activity has become more popular each year. So much so that it has become one of America’s most popular pastimes.

Lots of bird watching enthusiasts enter the bird watching tourism industry with no research into the industry. Alot of these people think that being a devoted bird watcher is all they need to make a go of a business in the bird watching tourism industry. Many times this turns out to be totally untrue. As with many types of businesses, the bird watching tourism industry can be rather erratic. It is an extremely competitive market to break into. Lately even the Indian bird watching tour operations are not making as much money as they used to. A shortage of cash has caused a lot of them to go out of business. If you want to go into the bird watching tourism industry, you need to know more about the business. An excellent option is researching free birdhouse plans to learn your trade.

Opening a bird watching tour business is just like opening up many other types of businesses. Creating a thorough business plan is extremely important. When talking about a sound business plan, we are basically trying to say that it is essential that you do you research. It would take a lot of pressure off from you if you hire a bird watching tourism professional help in creating a thorough business plan, but employing a professional can cost quite alot. You should bear in mind that many specialists are very expensive. If you only have limited budget, you may not be able to afford the fees of a bird watching tourism specialist. Look into building your own wren bird house as an option to get valuable know-how.

If cash is tight, you’ll need to create a business plan of your own. It may seem daunting but creating a sound business plan is not really than difficult. The easiest way to begin is to make a list of the things that you need to do to start in the industry and then determine the amount of money required to spend to make the venture work. Put together a budget and make sure you keep within it. As much as possible, do not spend more than you can afford to. Many businesses fall short in their first months as they are unable to manage how much they spend. To make certain this dosen’t happen to you where you end up spending all your money during the first few of months of business, put to one side reserves of your start up capital and then divide these quantities over the initial 6 months or so. Do your research about birds!

Hummingbirds can be found throughout the Americas including the Caribbean. Known for their hovering ability and their skill at backward flying, hummingbirds hover by rapidly flapping their wings up to 85 times a second.

The Bee Hummingbird is the tiniest bird in the world at just two inches in length and 1.8 grams. The Giant Hummingbird is the largest hummingbird at twenty four grams in weight and eight inches long. Hummingbirds have the highest metabolism of any birds and to keep going they have to consume their own weight and more in food daily. So that they can do this they must visit five hundred or more blooms a day to gather the nectar. They have extended beaks and tongues which allows them to reach deep into the blooms. They have the ability slow down their metabolisms when resting, unlike nearly all other animals with a high metabolisms. This lengthens their lifespan, which has been recorded at up to 16 years.

Making A Garden Friendly to the Hummingbirds

To attract hummingbirds to your garden you could plant brilliantly colored shrubs and flowers. Hummingbirds have a poor sense of smell but they are attracted to bright colours. Placing a feeder specially made for humming birds in your backyard or on your terrace will be a focus for these pretty birds. Annuals to plant include salvia, petunia, impatiens, firespike and jewelweed. Perennial plants include hosta, hummingbird mint, cardinal flower, canna, bee balm and columbine. For shrubs and trees pick azalea, buddleia, cape honeysuckle, mimosa, weigela, flame acanthus, lantana, red buckeye and tree tobacco.

Don’t use insecticides in your garden as this will destroy bugs and insects that hummingbirds eat. They also leave deposits on flowers which the hummingbirds could consume. Also provide plenty of roosting places as hummingbirds spend in the region of 80% of their time sitting on clothes lines, twigs etc. Supply plants that will supply materials for nesting to catch the attention of the females. Hummingbirds favor soft nesting material from trees like eucalyptus and willow and from lichens and ferns.

Hanging up brightly colored, specially made hummingbird feeders in your garden will attract the hummingbirds. An excellent idea is to fasten red ribbons that blow around the feeder. It’s also beneficial to supply feeders at assorted heights as hummingbird species all have different preferences. Species that favor low growing plants will visit a feeder sited lower whereas species that feed on taller shrubs and plants will rather visit a feeder positioned in a higher position. Hummingbirds are also very territorial and an individual hummingbird may perhaps defend a particular feeder and stop other birds from coming near. Set a minimum of three feeders at assorted heights all around your garden.

Hummingbirds enjoy bathing in the mist on plants so you might put a mister near to some broadleaved shrubs to supply them with a place to bathe.

A Method of Making Hummingbird Nectar

A sweet nectar can be made by blending together one cup of sugar and 4 cups of water that has been boiled. Let it cool and store in the fridge. Nectar that is unused can be kept safely for up to 7 days. Thoroughly wash hummingbird feeders weekly by rinsing with a mixture of 1 cup of vinegar in four cups of water then washing out with clean water. Fill up with the nectar and hang in the shade. Do not add sweeteners or food coloring. Also don’t use honey as it will ferment and create a fungus that is harmful. Swap the nectar solution in the feeder at least every three days or more often in hot, summer weather.

In Conclusion

It’s easy to make a garden to attract these attractive birds. Give them the food they love and a secure setting and hummingbirds will pay a visit your garden frequently.

On the planet today parrots are facing extinction. Man is the problem because we have destroyed a great deal of the habitat, we have destroyed food supplies, and we have taken too many birds in order to supply the pet trade. In both Europe and America it is now illegal to import wild parrots, therefore, the only way for you to get your pet parrot is by going to one of the good parrot breeders that are available. Although another option will be a pet store, which has been supplied by one of the breeders.

The negative side of parrots is they take a lot of looking after. Two major reasons for this is they either die immediately or live a very long time. Apparently, Winston Churchill are the parrot which swore like a trooper and was over a hundred years old. Parrots are high maintenance birds, and take a lot of looking after because of the special needs. These birds are very smart and intelligent but unfortunately get bored easily.

The brings many parrot breeders to a very important ethical issue. Which is a small percentage of human beings should not have parrots as pets. It’s a shame, but many parrots are unfortunately abandoned sooner or later. If you made a decision to become a parrot breeder, many sure you find good homes for the babies. This should mean you will guarantee to take it back if a person can no longer look after it.

Even though the hyacinth macaw is near to extinction both in the wild and in captivity, that not enough homes for the captive birds. It is true to say that some individuals only become parrot breeders after they rescue birds, and suddenly they have eggs.

It is clear that captive birds need to be taken care of now. However, what about the descendents?Amazon parrot breeders in South America are you trying to raise birds that will be able to fend for themselves. They plan to release the birds back into the wild.

Many parrot breeders are trying to stop selling birds to pet shops, so they can take responsibility for handpicking potential owners of the birds.

Malc Moore has been interested in parrots many years and finds them both fascinating and joyful to be around.

There are many bits of advice that can make parrot care very easy. The grooming for parrots is much different than for cats and dogs as your parrot is a bird and has a beak and claws. Much of grooming focuses on the claws, beaks and wings and keeping your parrot in top condition can be time consuming and challenging.

You would do well to educate yourself on the various conditions that can result in the beak becoming deformed and try to prevent this. Sometimes problems during birth can cause the parrot’s beak to grow at a weird angle, but accidents can also cause such results. Other conditions to look out for are mites and fungus, which can be found in the feathers and beak.

It can be very dangerous to cut your parrot’s claws if you have never done so before and have not had the proper instruction. In such a case, it is best to take your pet to a professional who can safely trim his claws. It can also be harmful to let your parrot’s claws grow too long, as it is possible he could break a toe or develop problems walking and perching.

You must also be aware that a parrot bird will require his wings to be clipped a certain way so as not to injure himself when flying or landing. It may seem cruel to clip a bird’s wings, but in reality, you are doing both yourself and the parrot a favor. As your parrot is not in the wild, he does not require huge wings for flight and hunting. He can hurt himself by flying into items in your home, and you would no doubt have a miserable time cleaning up broken items.

Like any pet a parrot needs a well balanced diet, though your pet parrot should not be feed like a wild parrot. Seeds are good because they have a lot of protein and fat but your pet parrot may become fat because they do not get as much exercise as wild parrots. Pelleted diets can also be good for pet parrots as this can give them the proper nutrition without getting fat.

Before you look for a parrot for sale, be sure that you are aware of the parrot supplies that will be necessary for the maintenance of a bird. Some of the items you will find helpful in raising your bird are a parrot cage, food and water equipment, a spray bottle (with a mist setting), and even toys.

Bird watching is an extremely enjoyable and relaxing past time that roughly anybody can take up. The basic description of bird watching is the study of birds either with the means of binoculars or with your naked eye. A lot of people who participate in bird watching also enjoy bird song and are capable of being able to classify the bird from the sound they make ahead of even seeing the bird. Bluebirds are a firm favourite of bird watchers so get some Bluebird House Plans and build a house to draw them to your garden.

A lot of people use bird watching as a recreational sport while others pursue it for study. The plus of bird watching is that it is a relatively easy on the pocket hobby to partake in and it is an activity a beginner can achieve from your own back garden regardless of skill. An excellent option for studying birds in your back yard is to make use of Birdhouse Building Plans and build a bird house. Also available are Bird House Kits For Kids you can buy that make assembly even simpler.

Lots of people observed birds early on, not for sport or study but for a functional function. They participated in bird watching as a means to discover when to collect their eggs or to learn when it was most advantagous time to hunt the birds for food. It grew into a trendy sport in Britain during the Victorian Era. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the capacity to watch birds from further distances became possible with the advent of bird watching guidebooks and binoculars. The dawn of guidebooks allowed even a novice the ability to classify birds they possibly have never seen in the past or known about. Soon groups started to became popular as more and more people started to develop an interest in the sport. Members of bird watching groups usually keep a list of what birds they have caught a glimpse of and the place where they observed them.

There are many easy ways to attract wild birds to your garden. The best way is to provide the food they love best and a safe place to eat it. Bird feeders are the best way of providing food for them. They are especially helpful in the winter months when natural food for the birds is scarce.

To attract different species set up feeding stations with their favorite food. An example of a speciality bird feeder is a thistle bird feeder that holds the seeds that finches love. Spillage can be prevented by using tube feeders which also keep the seeds dry and mold free. Enjoy the sight of the birds feeding from your home by using a window feeder.

Speciality feeders can be bought to attract hummingbirds, goldfinches and woodpeckers. Find somewhere safe from predators and close to your bird house. Check the feeder regularly to make sure the food is dry and mold free. Clean up any spilled food around the feeder regularly to deter ants and wasps and other predators.

Birds benefit most from feeding during the winter but food can be scarce in other seasons too. You can help the birds by putting out food all year around which will help when shortages occur. Temporary food shortages that occur in the breeding season can affect the fledglings so you should provide suitable food at this time.

Provide pans of water or bird baths for a safe place for them to drink, preen and clean their feathers. Provide water at various levels as some birds will prefer water at ground level, others prefer water in containers above the ground. Shallow dishes of water can be placed in quiet spots for the birds to clean their feathers, preen and drink. The sounds of running water will be attractive to the birds. Attach a water dripper to your bird bath. It will attract the birds and also prevent mosquitoes breeding in the water.

Give the wild birds a sense of security by providing a natural looking environment. You can provide an attractive place for them by letting a small area of the garden grow wild.

Most people who watch birds have the same opinion that although there are many beautiful spots to go bird watching you can have just as gratifying an experience in your own garden. Try making a hummingbird house to lure this enchanting bird. An outdoor bird house can lure various types of birds to your yard. Getting specific plans which teach you how to build a birdhouse is the best choice.

A lot people are of the same opinion that Copan could possibly be one of the greatest spots to go bird watching. Copan is situated in the Honduras, and you only have to take a five minute trip and you will reach the impressive Macaw Mountains. The variety of bird species is second to none in the world.

The explanation for considering Copan to be one of the greatest spots to watch birds is becuase there is an amazing ten acre Bird Park and Nature Reserve situated in the Macaw Mountains, providing many appealing footpaths, as well as straightforward walks that give great pleasure that will surely satisfy any bird watcher.

Of cause there are several other places on this planet that can be considered as some of the best locations to go bird watching. These include Abernethy and the Firth of Forth which are situated in Scotland. In South Africa, the best places to go bird watching comprise the Western Cape and the Northern Cape. In the US, Florida too houses some of the best spots to watch birds, a must being the Everglades National Park.

Any of the above areas will prove to be well worth the trouble and can be truly worthwhile birding trip. Just don’t look over the fact that your own back garden can be just as rewarding.

Parrots are not only clever but very good looking, they make great pets. Teach them to sing, beat box, or any sort of sound. They live a long time, sometimes up to 100 years. Thus, your friendship will be extremely long, even lifelong. Training these 3 types of parrots will yield the best results. If you are interested in any other type then please get our parrot training newsletter and know it all.

African Grey

These parrots are medium sized and are usually of a greyish colour. This is a grey parrot but you can see them with red heads and wings. This type of parrot speaks best. They will talk to you if you train them properly. However it can never be guaranteed that the Grey you choose will talk no matter what. Sometimes a Grey will never talk or show any signs of talking. Give them lots of attention to make friends or they will be likely to scream alot. Once bonded, the bird will be loyal and will love you more than you can think possible.

Conure

These parrots are small sized and have very big tails attached to their bodies. They come in many colours and are extremely intelligent. They are jokers, they will play all day. They are good for learning cool tricks and remembering them. Speaking parrots are cool but it takes traiing to get them to talk. The drawback is that they are best matched to owners who have lots of time to spend with them.

This is due to the fact that they need many hours of training every day to instill proper behavioir. These birds usually screech very much and make a lot of noise and racket but if they are given an early training then they can be made to control themselves so that the screeching does not become a problem.

Macaw

These parrots have been known to survive for about more than fifty years and knowing this you should be ready for a long relation with your bird. Get a big cage because this is a big parrot. Make sure you get this parrot a wide cage. If you want this parrot to be happy then you should let it out of its cage.

They have great beaks and bite stuff out. Give them lots of toys so they they dont attack your furniture and ruin it. Being such an intelligent bird you need to keep its mind active so get it some parrot toys.

Remember parrot training is important, never neglect your parrot or you could end up with parrot behaviour problems.

If you live alone its not possible be out and about with others all of the time. There are times when you find yourself all alone in your house and have nothing to do. Thus, acquiring a parrot as a companion is a good thing for you to consider so that you have at least a friend rather than being at home alone. It is worth noting though that getting a parrot is a huge commitment and one that should not be taken likely. A parrot needs much love, attention and care. Your biggest concern will be choosing the parrot cage your new friend will be spending the majority of his time in.

There are many parrot cages on the market today for you to choose from. Not all though will be built to a good standard. Some of those are just aesthetically built to catch the attention of many buyers and to gain more profits. So, you really have to take into consideration essential things in order to end up with the best kind of parrot cages nowadays. Here are some of the most essential things which you should always consider:

• Parrot Cage Size: The biggest cage your budget allows is always best. This is due to the fact that large parrot cages can certainly allow a parrot to move around and flaps its wings. To remain fit and healthy a parrot needs plenty of room so make sure they have it.

• Cage’s Bars: The bars of the cages may seem not important but if truth be told, it is also an essential thing to consider. You should choose parrot cages which have well-distanced bars in order to be certain that your parrot will be safe and will not be hurt in any way.

• Cage’s Pull-Out Trays: You should always see to it that the parrot cage which you are thinking of buying has a pull out tray located at the bottom in order to make it simper as well as easier for you to clean the wastes of your beloved pet. All the best quality cages have these so any that don’t should be avoided at all costs.

• Cage’s Quality: Quality should beat cost worries every time if your parrot is to remain safe and healthy. Cheap cages are false economy because your parrot cost you a lot of money so why risk his health and safety with a cheap cage. Thus, you have to choose a cage which is made up of durable materials like stainless steels so that you can be sure that your parrot is really safe.

Indeed, choosing parrot cages is not that too easy. This is due to the fact that you have to consider many essential things like the ones mentioned above in order to make sure that your parrot is truly at ease and is free from harm. Take your time and make sure you get it right though, the last thing you ant is to lose your parrot through a poorly constructed cage.
