Puppies naturally chew, and they tend to explore their world using their mouths and teeth. While chewing may be normal, however, it is not acceptable, and it is important to nip any chewing problems in the bud to prevent the chewing pitbull puppy from growing into a chewing dog. This is the tips in pitbull training I am sharing today.

Providing a variety of chew toys is important when teaching a pitbull puppy what is appropriate to chew and what is not. Providing a variety of attractive chew toys is a good way to keep the pitbull puppy entertained and to keep his teeth and gums exercised. Scented or flavored toys are great choices for most puppies.

The pitbull puppy should be encouraged to play with these chosen toys, and the pitbull puppy should be effusively praised every time he or she plays with or chews these toys.

Another great strategy is to encourage the pitbull puppy to get a toy every time he or she greets you. Every time the pitbull puppy greets you or a member of your family, teach him to get one of his toys.

It is also important to exercise good housekeeping techniques when training a pitbull puppy not to chew on inappropriate items. Keeping the area to which the pitbull puppy has access free and clean is important. Keeping items out of reach of the pitbull puppy will go a long way toward discouraging inappropriate chewing. Try to keep the pitbull puppy’s area free of shoes, trash, and other items, and always make sure that the area has been properly pitbull puppy proofed.

If the pitbull puppy does pick up an inappropriate item like a shoe, distract the pitbull puppy and quickly replace the item with one of its toys. After the pitbull puppy has taken the toy, praise it for playing with and chewing that toy.

Try booby trapping items the dog should avoid by spraying them with bitter apple, Tabasco sauce or other nasty but non-toxic items. Getting the right pitbull training equipment is pretty essential to your success.

Reptiles are quite complex pets to care for and different species have extremely varied maintenance requirements. Anyone thinking of keeping a reptile as a pet should therefore gather as much knowledge about their chosen animal as possible in order to properly recreate their preferred living environment. Planning ahead is also key to securing the long term health of your pet – as well as saving your pocket. Be aware of the full adult size of your reptile so that you can prepare a suitable vivarium instead of spending money upgrading, and where possible, try and calculate the long term costs of different lighting and heating set ups in order to select a system both affordable for you and appropriate for your pet.

Your first step will be selecting a suitable tank, if you are housing an animal which requires humidity you will need to select a waterproof option – many people choose glass tanks for this reason. As well as ample room for your reptile, you will also require space for decorations such as plants and rocks for the animal to hide behind. Your vivarium also needs to be large enough for you to be able to set up a thermal gradient. Because reptiles are ecothermic i.e. they use their environment to control their body temperature, they require a warm as well as cool area to rest in, as well as hiding places within these zones to help them feel safe and secure.

Recreating the natural environment of your pet can be tricky and expensive. Once you have your tank in place you will need to monitor heat, light and possibly moisture levels too. This can be done using a combination of lighting, heat mats and thermostats or rheostats. Make sure you buy specialist equipment and know your animal inside out to make sure you are aware of their exact requirements as keeping your pet at the wrong temperature, or not providing them with suitable UV lights can have severe health implications.

Once you have set up your heat and light system you will need to cover the bottom of the vivarium with a suitable substrate, again the exact material you will need for this will vary according to the type of reptile you own. Don’t forget this will need cleared of any soiling on a daily basis. Your final preparation step is to add plants and other décor, again tailored to your pet’s requirements. If your pet thrives in a humid environment try providing dense foliage which can collect water droplets for them. Once everything is in place and your vivarium is heated and lit accordingly you can move in your pet!

Choosing Your Ferret’s Cage

There are lots of things to think about when you first take a new ferret home. The first thing is that you need to do is to choose an area for your ferret’s cage. Keep in mind that the area you choose will be the place where your pet will spend most of its time. Make sure that the space is comfy and secure. There are plenty of ferret cages to choose from so be sure to select on that gives your pet lots of room to run around. Get some soft bedding for the cage so your ferret’s home is comfortable and he is not at risk for injury . Think about getting a cage with a plastic bottom because they are easier to clean. Cages with metals bottoms will rust and start to look shabby after several washings. However, if you do purchase plastic coated metal make sure that your ferret isn’t chewing the coating off. If they swallow bits of plastic that can cause an intestinal blockage. The cage should have various levels and good size doors. The large doors are so your ferret doesn’t get stuck while trying to get out.

Should You Get a Ferret Hammock

Ferrets like to sleep between 15 and 20 hours each day, so make sure you buy them some sleeping sacks and hammocks so they’ll be comfortable. You’ll need to ferret-proof the room too, because your ferret will need to spend a couple of hours every day outside of their cage.

Choosing Ferret Toys

Toys will also help to keep your ferret active and happy. Be very careful about the kinds of ferret toys you buy because a poor choice could put your little pal’s life in danger. Ferrets have really sharp teeth so choose strong toys. Cat toys are often a good choice. Avoid any foam or plastic toys that are easily damaged. Don’t leave any of the toys in your ferret’s cage if you’re not around to supervise. If your ferret eats a piece of a toy it can easily result in an obstruction that will need to be surgically removed.

Ferret Odor

Ferrets are part of the Mustelid family, which includes weasels, badgers, otters, etc., and so they have an odor. You should consider scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian to have your ferret neutered and de-scented. Most likely both procedures can be done at the same time. Always follow the veterinarian’s instructions on how to care for your pet after these procedures. Be sure to get your ferret the vaccinations they need and regular examinations as well. Most kits (baby ferrets) have only had their first series of shots when you purchase them. Make sure you know what shots they have already received and when they got them so you can tell your vet. When the first set of distemper shots are done your ferret will only need the shot once each year. Booster shots will be needed, too. Set up a schedule with your veterinarian.

Ferret Diet and Health

High quality food is needed to assure your ferret’s health. Make sure the food you have chosen is not made from frozen meat. It’s also a good idea to find out what brand of food your ferret was getting before you brought it home. If you’re changing the type or brand of food, do it slowly buy mixing small amounts of the new food with the old food and slowly increasing the amount of the new food while decreasing the old one.

What Type of Ferret Treats Are Safe

Ferrets really don’t need snacks, however, if you decide to give them some, always choose healthy treats like cooked eggs and meat. Candies or sugary treats will only harm your ferret.
Preparing well in advance for the arrival of your newly adopted ferret will make sure that your new pet stays healthy and happy.

Iguana Care

Without a shadow of a doubt the iguana is a wonderful creature and of course learning more about iguana care is what everyone who owns one, or would like to purchase one, should do. There is so much advice out there on the web about iguana care that it’s hard to know who to believe.

Image via Wikipedia

But the worst thing you can do is disregard vital iguana care advice because iguanas need a lot of special care. If you are not completely aware of the needs of your iguana it could easily become sick.

One of the biggest misunderstanding surrounding the importance of iguana care is the iguanas diet needs. Many people are under the assumption that a few leafy green vegetables and it’s happy. But many of these vegatables have low nutritional substance and therefore don’t provide the right amount of good stuff your iguanas needs. Be warned when providing iguana care that you don’t promote bad habits by continually feeding it the wrong foods. Your iguana is a creature of habit and will continue to eat what you give it. It’s hard to change its dietry pattern if already well established.

As you are here looking at this I assume it’s because you want to care for your iguana. If you want to provide good care for your iguana you must ensure it gets the right balance in it’s diet which should include a wide variety of vegetables. Try different things and your iguana will soon tell you what it likes and what it doesn’t. But generaly an iguana will enjoy a variety of vegatables as well as fruit. Make sure however you do not give your iguana fruit that could choke it. In other words anything with a pip or stone should be avoided unless you remove them first.

Another important part of iguana care is the iguana cage. The importance of planning ahead cannot be understated. If iguana care is important to you then you need to buy an iguana cage that it can grow into. Some iguana will grow as large as six or seven feet in length (including the iguanas tail). And it will need some good headroom in the iguana cage for you to provide it with room to climb. They can grow quite large and a lot of iguana owners don’t bother to invest in a new cage after it grows to adulthood. These people do not care for their iguana pet.
