Canine Disease

Dogs can suffer various canine diseases just as humans. Genetic diseases are common in dogs due to the selective breeding necessary to produce individual dog breeds.

Infections are not limited to dogs and are found in other animal populations. Rabies, Lyme, and leptospirosis also infect people. Each of these diseases can be prevented by early vaccination of puppies and adult dogs.

The good news is that the overwhelming majority of health problems that your dog will encounter can be successfully treated by a veterinarian, with some combination of medication, therapy, surgery, or some other medical treatment.

Signs of Canine Disease?

Canine Symptoms: In most cases it is fairly obvious when your dog is sick. Significant changes in eating habits and lack of exercise indicate a poorly dog. A sick dog will be listless or show very reluctant enthusiasm. If your dog lacks appetite (or stops eating), it is likely that he or she has become ill. Other symptoms of sickness to look for include pale gums and a whiter than usual tongue, duller than standard eyes, and a dry coat. Sick dogs also often suffer from a fever.

Treatment
A little rest and perhaps a change to a lighter diet usually help the dog to fully recover. If there are no signs of recovery, take your dog to the veterinary surgeon with a list of symptoms noted down. It may also be prudent to keep the necessary stool or other samples of discharges ready for any clinical investigation.
