Starting immediately and staying consistent every day of the year with training can be a very successful and rewarding experience for both you and your dog. Before your puppy’s arrival to their new forever home, you will need to involve everyone in the household, including the children in the training of the new puppy. It will make the process even more effective and for children to be involved not only teaches them to be responsibility, respect, empathy and sympathy towards living creatures, and bond them with their new pet but also gives your puppy a sense of pride, value, and love for their family.

Nothing builds the bonds of friendship between a child and their puppy faster than the child’s involvement in training that also contributes to a healthy and happy forever friendship! There are some ways to involve your child in training. Before you start, you may want to hold back on giving them full responsibility!

A child can become overwhelmed easily and this will not make them want to care for their pet. So start off slow. Here are some easy ways that allows your children based on their own abilities to contribute in training of puppy. First before your puppy’s arrival, take your child and let them pick out supplies. Before heading off to the store, make a checklist of everything you will need. Once at the store, ask your child’s opinions on sizes, shapes, colors, etc..

Getting their opinion and letting them choose makes them feel confident and interested in caring for their new friend! It puts them in the right frame of mind in caring for their pup. Secondly, let your child help set up the new living quarters for your new canine family member. Let your kid(s) provide a basket for toys and let them arrange the toys in the basket, set up a cushion in it’s crate for it’s comfort while sleeping, and allow them to set up the puppy’s food and water dishes. Finally, but one of the most important, is let your child help in giving lots of attention and affection towards your new 4 legged friend. You may also want to pick up some Dog pajamas to give your dog a great nights rest.

This should be done under the supervision of an adult at all times especially during puppy’s first days in their new home! Following these helpful tips can ensure a long lasting and loving friendship between your child and their pet that is not only retroactive but life changing.
