Multi Vitamins for Your Pet Dog are Very Important
Posted by PetFan on Oct 31, 2011 in Pets • No commentsLots of people have pets and love them. Pet owners across the globe spend over a billion dollars each year on dog food, dog training, dog vaccinations, and even pet clothing. The question that needs to be asked is if I take a multi-vitamin is there any reason my dog shouldn’t get one?
The answer is yes. Most pets would greatly benefit from having a multi-vitamin. Even the best pet food might not have all the nutrients your active dog needs. When you give your dog a vitamin you can help them live longer and live healthier.
When you are choosing a health supplement for your dog, make sure it has essential vitamins like D, C, and A. Other important vitamins include B vitamins and minerals like magnesium, calcium, and zinc. Make sure you also consider whether your dog needs something special because large dogs like German Shepherds may have special needs.
Fish oil is also beneficial for dogs. As you probably know, omegas are good for people so it makes sense they are good for dogs. Recent studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids can reduce the risk of kidney and heart disease in dogs.
Older dogs can also benefit from dog food or supplements that have chondroitin and glucosamine in them. These supplements are taken by humans to help with arthritis and they can also help your dog. Glucosamine helps your body to create new cartilage while chondroitin neutralizes the enzymes that erode cartilage away.
Many dogs like to eat grass but unfortunately most of grass has been treated with chemicals to keep either weeds or insects away. A better source of nutrients to boost their immune system, reduce allergies, and increase energy would be healthy green foods. Greens like Spirulina, barely grass and other green foods are loaded with nutrients that aren’t found in processed dog foods. Also a study done in China showed that giving your dog spirulina when it was undergoing cancer treatment protected the dog from damaged caused by the chemotherapy and radiation.
When purchasing vitamins and other supplements for your dog make sure you buy well known brands. Don’t just buy the cheapest vitamins out there. With that said, there is no reason you can’t go to an online pet supply store and save money while getting good supplements. The dosage of different vitamins varies so make sure to follow the directions on the box. As mentioned above, larger dogs may need larger doses. Giving your dog a multi-vitamin can not only add time to his life but also make that life more enjoyable.
