What Makes You Tick Is Definitely The Tick Of Your Current Dog
Posted by PetFan on Oct 8, 2011 in Pets • No commentsIt would really piss you off if your beloved best canine friend is infected with a tick and its infecting your home too. It may be gross just by thinking of it. But what really pisses me off is when my wonderful pug gets the tick from some other dog. Cherry B, my beautiful dog has the tick and I’m so sad that I can’t have her in my bed with me.
A friendly advice to dog lovers out there, don’t ever think that your dog is immune to ticks just because they don’t run around in the farm. The best prevention is to keep dogs away from other dogs you are not familiar with. Another, is to brush your dog with anti-tick or anti-flea solution at least once a week. Some anti-tick solutions can still be effective for at least a month or longer. Do not hesitate to inquire from your veterinarian about the best prevention care that you can give to your dog.
If you find the tick yourself, you can remove it. There is the right way however on how to do it; doing it wrong will only hurt your canine friend. Removing it improperly might cause infection from the skin of your dog. It is not advisable that you take out the tick without any gloves on. Some ticks are known to carry diseases.
As for my cherry B, I was not aware of any dog tick medicine that I can give her. What I did was brought her to the veterinarian.
For her tick bites, Cherry B was given the Newton Homeophatics Flea and Bug Bite, which is given to the dog through syrup drops. As for the dog tick medicine, a simple Frontline Plus was given and I was told to give Cherry B the medication for until six months. But I was told Cherry B can get back to my bed in three days tops, just to be sure the tick won’t get to me. It is impossible for me to drink Frontline Plus to let the ticks stay away.
Since this has happened, I have to get rid of my ultra fragrant dog shampoo and resort to using Ovitrol Plus Flea and Tick Shampoo as prevention. It’s not very per-fumy in scent but its prevention is better than cure.
There are also anti-tick collars for your dog which acts as a dog tick medicine. From what I have heard however, these collars are not very effective and ruins the looks of your dog. I think my Cherry B has enough prevention and medication already.
