The Orca is the biggest representative of the dolphin family (order Cetacea, subfamily Delphinidae) and a versatile predator. It’s also recognized as a Killer Whale or Great Killer Whale, despite the fact that it is not a whale. The Killer Whale identify is in fact a corruption of the earlier Killer of Whales; the species is actually known to feed on juvenile & small cetaceans. An additional term for the animal is Grampus.

Characteristics:

The animals tend to be distinctively marked, with a white chest and sides, black back  and a white patch behind and above, above & behind the eye. They have got a quite heavy as well as stocky body and a considerable dorsal fin. Males can easily be up to nine and a half meters long (more than thirty-one feet) and weighing 10 tons; females usually are smaller, reaching eight and one half metres (approximately 28 ft) at most and also a weight of 7 or perhaps eight tons. Range:

Diet :

Anyone recognise this one? Well of course there was bound to be someone out there that would call their dog after the guy from Halo, of course being Masterchief. I know this one isn’t too weird, I just had to include is because I love Halo, sad I know.

Kitty One Kanobi

Although if like me you are a true Star Wars fan you will know that the real spelling is Kenobi this cat owner has named the cat over one of the main characters from the six star wars movies and of course one of the lead characters within all of the video games and books too.

What

Kids named this one what so when people said to them what’s your cats name they could say, how on earth did you guess?. The cat was tone death as well which suited it even better.

Mrs. Bigglessworth

I would not be surprised if an elderly person named this cat, it seems to me just so typical of something an old person would call a cat.

Of course these names are a bit weird but surely this just makes you cat or dog stand out a bit from the rest of the animals in the neighbourhood.

You need to make sure that you choose the right vets when it comes to your pet and the right vet referrals and choosing one that can do animal radiology and animal ultrasound is very important indeed.

Family and friends may have developed a friendship with your pet that will make them willing to take the pet into their home. Going to the home of people they know will make your pet more comfortable too.

Your veterinarian may know of good homes looking for a new addition if friends and family cannot help. They will know of families that have recently lost a pet, and will be able to advise on the suitability of the home as well.

1) Antifreeze: Many people do not realize it, but common antifreeze kills many pets each year. Unfortunately, the sweet smell makes it appealing to your dog. Inside antifreeze you’ll find ethylene glycol and this is toxic. Symptoms of toxicity include seizures, vomiting, stumbling and lethargy leading to kidney failure. So, to prevent this, simply keep antifreeze far away from your dog. If you suspect that your dog has ingested antifreeze, take him to the vet immediately for a dog health check.

2) Chocolate: Dark chocolate is a prime example of something very dangerous to dogs. People assume that only large amounts kill pets, but in fact any amount can prove dangerous. Chocolate poisoning has horrific symptoms for dogs, including frequent urination and hyper-activity.   This can progress to seizures and unusual heart rhythms. Call your veterinarian immediately if you suspect your dog has eaten chocolate. Chocolate is bad for your dog’s health.

3) Bleach: As you might imagine, household bleach is toxic to dogs. Anything containing bleach should be out of sight and out of mind.   Symptoms of bleach poisoning include drooling, vomiting, and abdominal pain. It is an owner’s common instinct to try and make the dog be sick to get rid of the product it has eaten, but doing this can be fatal for your pooch, so please don’t try it. You have to keep your dog health care routine in check otherwise these substances could kill.

4) Mouthwash: Again, something else that is found in the home and can prove fatal is mouthwash. Symptoms of poisoning by mouthwash include vomiting, drooling, seizures, and coma. You should take your dog to the veterinarian immediately if you suspect poisoning by mouthwash or other household item containing boric acid like contact lens solution or denture cleaner.

It is an owner’s responsibility to make sure dogs don’t get anywhere near to toxic substances. As owners, we try our best to keep on top of a dog health care routine, but its no good washing them and grooming them if you then poison them accidentally with household substances. Just remember that if you suspect anything bad has happened, then it is time you made a swift visit to the vet.

If you’re considering which gender of rabbit to buy, different breeders have different preferences as to which rabbits make the best pets. This is compounded by the individual temperament of the rabbit. For example, with a female rabbit, which is called a doe, she can become very territorial if she isn’t spayed when young. In some cases, she may even bite you a little bit if you get too close. Some does will eliminate that aggression when a familiar face does the feeding on a daily basis. It does vary between different female rabbits, and some will be very aggressive whereas others will be completely placid. If you still favour the idea of having a doe, but want her purely as a pet, the best thing to do is to get her spayed. In some cases though, rather timid rabbits will move backwards as though they don’t want picking up. If you notice anything strange like this, it might mean that the rabbit isn’t a good choice for a family pet.

Pellets

Feeding rabbits pellets is common practice and these are available from a wide range of pet stores, both online and offline.   Pellets were originally designed for rabbit breeders for the purpose of providing as much food energy and vitamins as inexpensively as possible.

Hay

Of course, we all know that rabbits need some hay. A steady supply of hay will help prevent digestive tract problems in rabbits. Additionally, it provides a number of necessary vitamins and minerals at a low food energy cost. You’ll be hard pushed to find a rabbit that doesn’t enjoy chewing hay, and apart from anything else it is a great boredom solver.

Treats

Rabbit food also comes in the form of treats. But do bear in mind that treats can be very unhealthy if you give them out too often. In pet stores, you will often find that a lot of the treats are full of carbs and high in sugar. So, if you really want to treat your rabbit, you should feed them fruit.

Here is a helpful list of just some of the fruits that are best to feed your rabbit: Peach, Banana and Pineapple…and bear in mind that any seeds should eb taken out before giving it to your pet.

Like you already know, any sort of treats should be fed in moderation so that your rabbit doesn’t suffer health problems. A good tip is to make sure that the rabbit’s diet doesn’t consist of any more than ½  a tablespoon of treats each day. Just make sure your rabbit doesn’t get more than half a tablespoon of treats a day.

Just like with humans though, fruits don’t digest quickly, so don’t give fruit to your rabbit who is under 4 months old. The worst case scenario is when fruit can cause enteritis which can be deadly in a very short space of time.

While a common myth that rabbits should be given lettuce, this is not a good idea because it contains little to no nutritional value for the rabbit and again can cause enteritis, which leads to a quick death.

Cecal pellets

Although an unpleasant sight, some rabbits do eat their own faeces, so please don’t panic if you see this. The official name for these is ‘cecal’ pellets and they are actually an important part of a rabbit’s diet. Cecal pellets are soft, smelly, clumpy faeces, and are a rabbit’s only supply of Vitamin B12. Due to the design of the rabbit’s digestive system, they cannot extract some vitamins and minerals directly from their food, so that is why they eat faeces. Don’t panic though, as this is normal practice.

Many doctors in the field are worried that putting that much strain on animals will cause an increase in heart problems. Pet airways have already announced that there will be an on board animal cardiology vet to take care of any flight trouble. Considering that high altitude could affect the health of the animals it is very crucial to consider every possibility.

Currently Pet Airways only serves New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver and LA. The price for one ticket is only £91 which is a very competitive rate to beat by any other American airline.

Pet Airways claims that it offers a very different and unique service for animals. All animals will be loaded into carriers on the aircraft instead of seats to ensure their security. The animals, up to 50 at a time will be escorted to the plane by attendants who will check them every 15 minutes during the flight to make sure they are ok. Local animal hospitals from around the area have been in support over the idea to take animals in the sky by plane and think it is a great idea.

The company, which will begin with one flight in each of its five cities, might add more flights and cities. Within the next year, Binder hopes to develop over 25 desitinations onto their current roster.

The European Union governs the animal cruelty laws for companion animals, unlike the United States that leaves it up to the individual states to govern accordingly. The European laws take preventive actions rather than waiting to deal with the abusive owner after an animal has been abused. This is unlike the US, which does not have any preventive measures against animal cruelty.

Farm animals are also covered by the animal laws that the European Union has set forth. When it comes to farm animals, the transport and slaughter of these animals in the EUis much more progressive and stricter than in the United States. They rarely have issues, whereas the US is regularily in the news for unethical treatment of a variety of animals waiting for slaughter.

Animal cruelty laws exist in the world to protect the animals. The countries of the European Union understand that animals are not property and therefore, their laws are more extensive. The US, on the other hand, is still coping with this issue because animals are viewed as property and not living creatures.
