Domestic long hair cat is often used to explain a standard cat with medium or long hair. Domestic long hair come in most types of colour under the sun, tortoiseshell, tabby, smoke, bi-coloured. Due to the sundry parentage they on average have a good disposition. The domestic long hair will exhibit their own individual character that will be formed in their early months by their owners and surroundings. Continual interest and fussing will more likely lead to a friendly, home loving cat. The mixed lineage also means they come in numerous types of body shapes and sizes, ranging from ten to 20 pounds ( four to eight kilograms) though the males are typically heavier.
The long hair comes from a recessive gene, so you can see short hair offspring from them and vice versa from a domestic shorthair.
Cat sitters love domestic longhair for their long hair, but this means they are not able to groom their own fur, so must to be brushed daily. This is a key part of cat care. Often breeders recommend that the domestic long hair be bathed every week or two. Though many experts believe that if they are regularly groomed and they do not venture outside that this is not needed.
Bathing is difficult with a cat, though it is easier if introduced as part of regular routine to a young kitten.
The extremely long haired cats are very prone to matted fur, especially if they go outside. This can become so bad that they grow “wings”. The nastiest places for matted fur are under the legs and arms. This will aggravate the cat and inhibit his movements and on a cat that often goes outside, could lead him being caught in bushes or trees. The cats forcing away, could result in bald patches and perhaps injuries. If the cat develops such matting, the use of a de-matting comb should detangle it. The cat may not like grooming, but regular combing will remove the mat and stop them reforming.
New cat owners may feel tempted to cut the mats away with scissors, instead of brushing it out. Take care with doing this, the skin may appear like a mat and you may cut the cat. If inclined to do this, take care, little by little and cutting away from the cat. There are special grooming electric clippers, but these need care as well. If in doubt, take the cat to a professional groomer or the vet. Many professional cat sitters such as London pet sitting will tidy up the cat as part of their regular visits.
The mats generally are full of bacteria, so if you do cut the cat here, be sure to clean up the wound thoroughly to avoid infection.

If it’s been a while since you had a cat in your home, or if you’re bringing your first cat home as a pet, you will need to review some basic advice in house cat care. Like any pet, a cat has very specific needs and the more information you have, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to guarantee your cat’s health and happiness. Just take a few minutes to look over the advice given here to ensure your cat’s well-being and long healthy life.

You have to pay attention first to cat-proofing your home. Try to visualize what the cat sees before you bring the new cat into your home. Go from room to room in your house and check that there is no danger that the cat could get exposed to. To prevent some significant problems, be aware that you will need to remove any important furniture that you value to another room that your cat won’t be going into.

One of the most important things in house cat care is that you’ll need a litter box for your cat. You’ll be scooping this litter box out at least once a day, maybe more, and it should only be in an area of your house that isn’t active, and that is not accessible to other animals or children. You’ll see that cats are ready and willing to use the litter box, but the first time you expose them to it you may need to put them in it and show them how to scratch at the gravel in the litter box.

Long hair cats must get used to being groomed, if this is the type of cat you have. If you keep brushing your cat, you will not have the problem of the cat swallowing extra hair and developing hairballs.

This can lead to more serious health issues later in life. Remember that house cat care means your cat needs to be picked up and brushed. The best time to begin this is when the cat is young, if you can.

Watching your cat like a detective will guarantee good house cat care, generally speaking. You should notice if there is something strange or different about your cat’s behavior. This is the best way to care for a cat and will help keep any smaller problems from growing and becoming worse later, and you will also get better acquainted with your feline friend!

Many illnesses affect the lives of our pets. Oftentimes, these illnesses, like diabetes, cat kidney disease, bladder infections, obesity, bowel irritability and many other conditions, hamper the ability of the feline to function normally. Keep in mind these conditions are all controllable. Many of the points in this article can be applied to dog illness, dog disease as well. Oftern the ability to correct these conditions is in the hand of the owner.

Let’s look at diabetes as an example. Diabetes is a aggrivated when there are a lot of carbohydrates in a cat’s diet. It happens when the carbohydrates cause an imbalance in the insulin levels. Obesity can be part of the cause for diabetes in cats. There is an easy solution to the problem of diabetes. By lowering the amount of carbohydrates the cat ingests you can regain a proper insulin balance. If the cat is overweight then a diet may be in order. This can be occomplished simply by implementing feeding times rather than a bowl of food left on the floor.

Kidney failure is another issue most common among cats. This is partialy a result of a cat being dehydrated for long periods of time throughout his or her life. Some cats are finicky about where they drink from. Like you, they want fresh water at all costs. This can mean drinking from a fountain, tap, or even the toilet if it affords more fresh water than a dish in their room. By changing the wet food you feed your cat regularly, you can also increase the amount of water they get in their diet, offering a better hydration. Taking action on these simple and obvious points can improve your cats health now and prevent kidney failure from happening in later years.

Water is also important in the prevention of bladder infections and kidney stones. This kind of preventative attitude will allow the pet owner to catch the condition in time and stop it from happening in the first place. An ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. Once the problem has gotten out of hand, sometimes it is too late to do anything about it. Why not eliminate it before it begins?

We have mentioned a lot about the proper nutrition for cats to provide proper health and a long life. We should also mention that health care is essential. Your cat should be taken to the vet for shots, health checkups, and other needs to ensure they remain healthy.
You also need to promote an energetic lifestyle in your cat. Play with your cat during the evening when you are home or let it roam outside in a controlled environment. A cat tree, pet steps or some other type of cat tree furniture can ensure at least minimal exercise even within the saftey of your home. Providing proper nutrients like calcium for healthy bones and other critical vitamines is another important responsibility of a pet owner.

As a pet owner you should make sure that the food being offered to your cat has no harmful chemicals or additives. If you are not sure what is the best choice speak to your vet on the next visit. The vet can steer you towards healthy foods that you should be looking for. In fact they can make sure that you are not offering pre- packaged foods that have an abundance of bad ingredients or carbohydrates. Moderation is the key when it comes to ingredients. Everything can be harmful when given in an overabundance.

Take a proactive role in your cat health and dog health. Doing so will provide dividends down the road that will seem miraculous. Long term health is not something that is gained quickly. Rather it must be a commitment by the owner to do the right thing when it concerns the health of their cat.

The domesticated cat of today has become the companion animal of choice for millions of people around the world. In the United States alone, more than 30 million domestic pet cats now outnumber the dog population by many millions, with the gap increasing every day. For what reason has the domestic cat gained in popularity? What is it about this puzzling creature that appeals to so many of us?

The answer to this definitely has to be the ambiguous personality of the cat. Highly intelligent, it possess an exceptional amalgamation of personality traits not found in other domestic pets. Beguiling and quiet, self-sufficent amd poised, fastidious and athletic, the domestic cat is seldom needy. It appreciates company but is also content to pass the time alone for hours on end, making it an ideal pet for single people especially, let alone a family.

This autonomous streak, a result of felines in nature living alone by themselves, gives the household feline a slightly haughty attitude for life; for them, the sun does not rise and set with people, although they will take us when they can get us, thank you very much.

The capability cats have to survive, with or without humans could just be one of the top reasons why we like them so much. Emotionally needy pets (or people) tend to grate on the nerves after a time; cats are charismatic egocentric creatures. This, combined with their dignity, grace, beauty, and ease of care, make them always desirable.

We also like cats for their ability to say, ” we are your roommate, not your servant,” and for their capacity to recognize the value of a good nap. And who does not appreciate the cat’s clean, fastidious nature and built-in toilet training? The best of luck to you in getting a Schnauzer puppy to use a litter box!

Cats enjoy all the consideration we humans give to them, though they will, given the chance, deny it. They are content to remain with us because we love them and provide for them, but if we vanished from the Earth anytime soon, it#s more than likely that the cat would mourn a bit, meow some, and then continue with the business of finding a furry little meal – all the while laughing at the millions of aimless, brokenhearted dogs wandering around aimlessly, trying to gigure out what to do next.

In my experience, closer ties have been developed with a cat when an owner enables the cat to decide for itself when and where it wants affection from its owner. As my grandmother used to say: “You’ll never own a cat but one may choose to live with you”.

The domesticated cat of today has become the pet of choice for a people around the world. In the USA alone, over 30 million pet cats now outnumber the dog population by several million, with the gap increasing each day. Why has the domestic feline gained in popularity? What is it about this puzzling animal that appeals to so many of us?

The answer to this definitely has to be the ambiguous personality of the cat. Extremely intelligent, it possess an exceptional amalgamation of characteristics not found in other houshold pets. Intriguing and quiet, poised and self-sufficient, athletic and fastidious, the domestic cat is rarely needy. It loves company but is also content to spend time alone for hours on end, making it the perfect pet for single people especially, let alone families.

This independent streak, a result of felines in nature living alone by themselves, gives the household cat a slightly cavalier attitude to life; for them, the sun does not rise and fall around people, although they appreciate what we have to offer, thank you very much.

The capacity with which cats survive, with or without the help of humans could perhaps be one of the main reasons why we like them so much. Emotionally needy pets (or people) tend to grate on the nerves after some time; cats are delightful narcissists. This, combined with their dignity, grace, beauty, and ease of care, make them always desirable.

We also like cats for their ability to say, ” we are your roommate, not your servant,” and for their capacity to realise the value in taking a nap. And who does not appreciate the cat’s clean, fastidious nature and built-in toilet training? Good luck getting a Schnauzer puppy to use a litter tray!

Cats enjoy all the consideration we humans give to them, though they will, given the chance, deny it. They are perfectly happy to stay with us because we love them and look after them, but if we vanished from the Earth tomorrow, chances are the cat would mourn somewaht, meow some, and then continue with the business of finding a furry little meal – all the while mocking the millions of rudderless, heartbroken pooches wandering around aimlessly, wondering what to do next.

If my life experience is anything to go by, closer ties have been forged with a cat when an owner doesn’t smother the animal with unwanted affection at times when the cat just wants its own space. As my grandmother used to say: “You’ll never own a cat but one may choose to live with you”.

If you are new to owning a cat, you may be surprised to find that health problems are a common thing.

No matter what breed of cat you own, cat health is one of the major topics you will have to know about. There are certain problems with every breed, some of which may be hereditary, but there are also certainly others than can be prevented easily. No matter what breed of cat it may be, worms are a very common and recurring problem.

Some of the most typical worms to infect cats are tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms. Cats who have problems gaining weight, problems with fleas, or if you find white specks in his stool, you should have your vet test him for worms. Worms have been proven to be fatal if not treated correctly, so always remember to use the medicine prescribed.

Hairballs are the most common health problem for cats. Cats often swallow loose hair from their coats during their daily self grooming rituals. Loose hair, on occasion, will gather into a ball and become lodged in the digestive tract instead of passing through in your cats stool. When your cat starts to cough and hack, he is normally coughing up a hairball – as a popular cat owner manual confirmed recently. Although it is kind of gross, cats can usually get rid of the hairballs without difficulty. Hairballs may occasionally move through a cats intestine and block food from getting past.

Blockages are very serious problems, and can be life threatening if they arent treated. If your cat becomes constipated, isnt eating properly, or has a very dull coat, he could have a blockage. Seek veterinary assistance immediately if any of the symptoms listed appear.

If you want to prevent your cat from getting hairballs and blokages, you should get rid of shedding hair by brushing your cat 2 to 3 times every week. You can also feed him food that is designed to control hairballs as well. Urinary tract infection is also a common health problem with cats.

Female and male cats can suffer from urinary tract infections, however, this is more likely to occur in male cats that have not been neutered. When a cat suddenly stops going to his litter box, this problem is normally the cause. If a cat’s urine smells unusually strong, the cat may have a urinary tract infection and should be taken to the vet. Your vet will supply you with the proper medicine, and give recommendations on how to avoid this issue in the future.

Feline leukemia was the biggest cause of death in cats in the past, however, these days, vaccines are available that can treat the disease. To treat the disease, your cat will need to be given the shot before he or she is exposed. Even though death doesnt happen immediately, cats that are exposed to feline leukemia normally don’t have a long life span. If you know your cat has feline leukemia, you should never allow other cats around him, as the virus is highly contagious.

To protect your cat, you should always make sure that you take him to the vet for his regular check ups. If you keep him up to date on his vaccinations, he should lead a healthy and productive life. Although some health problems can’t be avoided, most of them can. If you take cat care seriously, take him to the vet and keep him healthy he will be your companion for years to come.
