If allergy attacks suddenly become a problem for you and it is not caused by the common cold, weather conditions and other uncontrollable factors, it may be caused by dander or scurf from the coat of your pet rabbit, in which case you need to look at improved rabbit care. Children are often highly susceptible to rabbit allergies, but proper rabbit grooming is one way to eliminate the household allergies you and your family experience.

Rabbit care is important because, if done correctly, it will reduce your allergies, whilst keeping your pet clean and dander-free. Never underestimate the importance of rabbit care. This is particularly important during winter, when you and your pet spend more time at home or other closed environments.

Aside from physical benefits that are achieved from rabbit care, you and your pet will also create a special bond because of physical interaction. You will find that your rabbit will also feel much more relaxed when held. In addition, you will get to know your pet rabbit, allowing you to know what areas he or she dislikes or likes to be touched. By touching a specific area, you’re sure to find that any health problems are identified much quicker.

Keep your eyes peeled for skin diseases and lumps and bumps which can only be felt under the skin. Regular grooming sessions will help you to see if the pet has any ticks or mites which need treating.

When you have no idea how to perform rabbit grooming, the trick is to take it step by step to achieve the best results. Pet owners will know that rabbit grooming forms a small part of rabbit care in general, but it is still important. Some people just think they should groom their dogs and cats, but all animals can benefit from grooming.

No-one wants a sick pet, but grooming can help reduce the risk. Making sure your pet receives proper grooming not only provides physical benefits, but also makes you and your pet closer to each other.

Choosing the right rabbit for you and your family can be a very exciting process. With over 40 different rabbit breeds, there’s certainly many to choose from. Most of these breeds have different colours and are of different varieties. In addition to these facts, the size of the rabbit in general can vary greatly and you may find that they can be weigh over 10 pounds, in which case you will need to make sure you know what you’re doing with rabbits and have a good understanding of general rabbit care.

If you’re considering which gender of rabbit to buy, different breeders have different preferences as to which rabbits make the best pets. This is compounded by the individual temperament of the rabbit. For example, with a female rabbit, which is called a doe, she can become very territorial if she isn’t spayed when young. In some cases, she may even bite you a little bit if you get too close. Some does will eliminate that aggression when a familiar face does the feeding on a daily basis. It does vary between different female rabbits, and some will be very aggressive whereas others will be completely placid. If you still favour the idea of having a doe, but want her purely as a pet, the best thing to do is to get her spayed. So many people make the mistake of not doing this, but if you are thinking of a long-term rabbit care plan, spaying should be top of your list.

Grooming is another consideration that’s part of your rabbit care plans. There are some breeds that require more grooming than others and you will find that this is quite a time-consuming process. Naturally, all rabbits need to be groomed, but it is the wool breeds that will require a good brush on a regular basis.

I would not recommend buying a rabbit without first seeing it, nor would I recommend purchasing a rabbit from a pet store. Once you know which breed of rabbit you would like to buy, do an online search for a breeder in your local area. Visit with that breeder. Ask to see all round the house and see where the rabbits are kept so you can check if they are sanitary conditions. Ask if you can hold a rabbit. This is the point where you can check the rabbit’s reaction to seeing their hutch door being opened. Rabbits that love attention will immediately come to the door, some will even make happy grunting type noises. In some cases though, rather timid rabbits will move backwards as though they don’t want picking up. If you notice anything strange like this, it might mean that the rabbit isn’t a good choice for a family pet.

So, taking all aspects of rabbit care into consideration is important, but so too is the enjoyment you get from searching for a rabbit. With many sizes and different colours to choose from, it is hoped that you will eventually find that perfect rabbit for your family.

Most pet owners know that a rabbit’s diet will consist of things like water, pellets and vegetables. Fruit and other treats are given only in very limited quantities, as they can cause obesity in a rabbit. Your furry friend also needs a supply of water to prevent them from dehydrating, which is a common problem with rabbits. Now lets look at some more information to guide you in the right direction with your rabbit food.

Pellets

Feeding rabbits pellets is common practice and these are available from a wide range of pet stores, both online and offline. Pellets were originally designed for rabbit breeders for the purpose of providing as much food energy and vitamins as inexpensively as possible.

Hay

Of course, we all know that rabbits need some hay. A steady supply of hay will help prevent digestive tract problems in rabbits. Additionally, it provides a number of necessary vitamins and minerals at a low food energy cost. You’ll be hard pushed to find a rabbit that doesn’t enjoy chewing hay, and apart from anything else it is a great boredom solver.

Treats

Rabbit food also comes in the form of treats. But do bear in mind that treats can be very unhealthy if you give them out too often. In pet stores, you will often find that a lot of the treats are full of carbs and high in sugar. So, if you really want to treat your rabbit, you should feed them fruit.

Here is a helpful list of just some of the fruits that are best to feed your rabbit: Peach, Banana and Pineapple…and bear in mind that any seeds should eb taken out before giving it to your pet.

Like you already know, any sort of treats should be fed in moderation so that your rabbit doesn’t suffer health problems. A good tip is to make sure that the rabbit’s diet doesn’t consist of any more than ½ a tablespoon of treats each day. Just make sure your rabbit doesn’t get more than half a tablespoon of treats a day.

Just like with humans though, fruits don’t digest quickly, so don’t give fruit to your rabbit who is under 4 months old. The worst case scenario is when fruit can cause enteritis which can be deadly in a very short space of time.

While a common myth that rabbits should be given lettuce, this is not a good idea because it contains little to no nutritional value for the rabbit and again can cause enteritis, which leads to a quick death.

Cecal pellets

Although an unpleasant sight, some rabbits do eat their own faeces, so please don’t panic if you see this. The official name for these is ‘cecal’ pellets and they are actually an important part of a rabbit’s diet. Cecal pellets are soft, smelly, clumpy faeces, and are a rabbit’s only supply of Vitamin B12. Due to the design of the rabbit’s digestive system, they cannot extract some vitamins and minerals directly from their food, so that is why they eat faeces. Don’t panic though, as this is normal practice.

When it’s time for your family to get a pet, there are a number of decisions to make before deciding on the ideal family pet. There are numerous factors that you should consider when you are picking a pet for kids, including the pet’s size and eating habits.

One pet that many families consider is the rabbit. It seems like an ideal pet because of its size, manor, and eating habits. The only drawback of owning a rabbit is dealing with some of the animals natural actions. Rabbits are not the type of pet that likes to be held and snuggled.

Try to hold a rabbit against their will and they may bite, scratch, and kick their way free of your grasp. Kids who want to pet and play with a family pet are not well suited for a rabbit. Because it is not a social animal, a rabbit may not be the ideal pet for a family.

Rabbits can also take a long time to adapt to a new environment and to bond with their owner. The time and patience required to domesticate and acclimate a rabbit make it a difficult pet for children to deal with. They aren’t good pets for children because rabbits require more time and attention than children are usually able to give.

Another consideration when choosing a rabbit as a pet is that rabbits can be destructive. Rabbits don’t destroy things to irritate you, but it is just their nature to chew up things that are around them. If you don’t put them up a rabbit will chew cables and electrical cords, or anything of interest they find in their surroundings.

A final factor to consider is that rabbits require a lot of attention. Rabbits have a number of needs. As herbivores, they will only eat meatless foods. You can feed them specially made pellets and clean fruits and vegetables. Their cage has to be cleaned every day, and they require a constant supply of fresh food and water. When getting supplies, you can find cheap rabbit cages online. If you can provide the extra time and attention a rabbit needs, it can be a good companion in the right environment.

Pet Rabitts

You may find many challenges involved in keeping a pet rabbit. But there are lots of positives, too. Here are some of the pros and cons…

Rabbits can live a long time, sometimes as long as ten years. That in itself can be either a good or bad thing, depending on your point of view. People often view rabbits as something to amuse the kids when they’re yound. but having the life expectancy of a dog makes them a long term commitment. Think ahead.

Rabbits are prone to a few diseases that may be hard to treat. Since rabbits can’t vomit, a hairball can cause them serious intestinal difficulty. A balance diet will help minimize the odds. They can contract a disease called RHD (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease), a virus that can cause death. Even if they survive, they can spread it to other pet rabbits. Rabbits can be subject to flea and mite infestations, and all the potential complications that the parasites bring.

Pet rabbits require some grooming, more than a cat, but considerably less than a dog. Though bathing them is unnecessary, and indeed not generally a good idea (rabbits can become overheated easily), they still benefit from a regular nail trim and brushing.

Some of that grooming effort is for the benefit of the rabbit, some of it is for you. Keeping your pet rabbit well brushed will help keep the amount of hair floating around the house down. Trimming their nails keeps them from being quite so destructive around the house if they’re left free to roam around.

A pet rabbit that is out of the cage can be quite destructive. They love to dig and they may chew almost incessantly. A rabbit’s teeth never stop growing and to keep them under control is to give them things to gnaw on. That may be find outside, but in the house it can be a problem.

With some effort and some expense, you can rabbit proof your home. You’ll need to lay down covers for the couch or plastic laminates (such as those used under office chairs) and devise other protective measures. But, there are many ways to do this and it doesn’t have to be done often. Many people view the expense and effort as well worth it.

Vet care is important and can be expensive and time consuming. But with rabbits there’s often an additional problem: few vets have much experience with pet rabbits. Often, the litte creatures just don’t get the attention a dog or cat might. Often times, once a rabbit becomes ill, they sometimes die and are just replaced. That gives the vet less chances to treat them. Finding a good one in your location can be difficult.

But all that said, pet rabbits are still among the most fun pets. They’re cute, soft and they exhibit a surprising array of amusing behaviors. They can run around and express joy. When not in a stressful situation, they can respond well to individual people, like many other pets. They’re affectionate, in their own way.
